A method of measuring the rate at which heat is generated by aerobic composting of wastes

A new technique is described for measuring heat production rates of composting material without requiring any knowledge of the heat capacity of the material or the composting system. Experiments were conducted on a bench-scale adiabatic composting system using an insulating bonnet of rigid foam insulation 2.5 cm thick to reduce heat loss at high temperatures.
