C. bovis activated hexacanths (obtained by immersion of oncospheres in sodium sulphide) were injected subcutaneously at the rate of 150 to 200 into 5 sites on either side of a calf. For comparison, hexacanths obtained by the Silverman (1954) technique were injected into 2 of the sites. 60 to 80% of the hexacanths developed into cysticerci in 2 to 3 weeks and the efficacy of an anthelmintic could be assessed on biopsies taken at the sites of infection.
