A model of the isotopic fractionation of water in the Amazon basin (First approximation)

Acta Amazonica 9(4): 675-687

Two models of water flux in the central belt of the Amazon basin are presented, using data collected in eight sectors of the river basin. The source of the water vapour is identified by its isotopic composition. The first model assumes that the Atlantic Ocean is the only source of water vapour, advected by the predominant easterly winds. In the second model the forest also serves as a source of water vapour through evapotranspiration.
