A model of wood structure

A model of wood structure

Khimiya Drevesiny (5): 3-9, 119-120

A wide range of data on the time to failure of softwoods and aspen under constant stress, in both tension and compression, was analysed to determine the activation energy of mechanical breakdown of valency bonds, regarded as a continuous kinetic process All the data gave values close to 170 kJ/mole, identical with that of viscose which lacks the complex structure of wood.
