A model simulating the population dynamics of the grasshoppers (Acrididae) Melanoplus sanguinipes (Fabr.), M. packardii Scudder, and Camnula pellucida (Scudder)

A model simulating the population dynamics of the grasshoppers (Acrididae) Melanoplus sanguinipes (Fabr.), M. packardii Scudder, and Camnula pellucida (Scudder)

Researches on Population Ecology 24(2): 276-301

A modified Leslie matrix model was devised to simulate the effect of weather on changes in the densities of nymphs and adults of 3 grasshopper pests. Data to test the predictive power of the model were based on suction catches in pasture in Saskatchewan in 1974-76. There was good agreement between observed and simulated trends for the time of appearance of the different instars of Melanoplus sanguinipes (F.) and Camnula pellucida (Scud.).
