Growth rates of Lactobacillus acidophilus NCDO 1, L. bulgaricus NCDO 86 and L. helveticus NCDO 261, resp., were increased during incubation at 37 deg C for 48 h by 64, 64 and 58% when 0.001 g 4-methyl-5- beta -hydroxyethyl thiazole was added to 1 l APT Difco broth.
