A mosquito control scheme for South Australia



Arbovirus research in Australia Proceedings 3rd symposium 15-17 February 1982: ; 19-23



Following an outbreak of encephalitis in man in Australia in 1974, the setting up is described of a scheme for monitoring mosquitoes (especially Culex annulirostris Skuse and Aedes vigilax (Skuse)) as possible vectors in South Australia. Fifteen traps are run in 6 towns for the 1st 13 weeks of the year. A two-way analysis of variance of geometric mean catches for between weeks and between years showed that 1975-77 gave higher catches than 1978-81, when catches declined in each successive year.
