A dietary survey was made in 1979 in connection with a multicentre study on atherosclerosis precursors in children in 5 rural and urban areas in different parts of Finland; 415 children, 3 and 12 years old, were interviewed using the 48-h recall method. Food consumption and the intakes of energy and 53 nutrients were calculated. Mean energy intake was 1474 kcal for children 3 years old and 2585 kcal and 2037 kcal for boys and girls 12 years old.
