A sample of spectral reflectance data of deer (Odocoileus hemionus) and a variety of background objects (snow; juniper, Juniperus osteosperma; sagebrush, Artemisia tridentata; and rabbitbrush, Chrysothamnus nauseosus) in a controlled outdoor winter setting in the western USA was collected in 1978 from a tower, using a specially designed circular, variable filter spectrometer system with a spectral range of 0.4 to 1.1 mu m.
