A new approach to the use of progesterone levels for pregnancy determination

British Veterinary Journal 139(1): 41-48

Intravaginal sponges impregnated with 250 mg medroxyprogesterone (MAP) were inserted in Israeli Friesian cows and the effect on plasma progesterone and early pregnancy diagnosis based on milk progesterone observed. It was found that exogenous MAP prevented the formation of a normal corpus luteum if it was administered for a number of days starting on the day of oestrus.
