A new assay capable of distinguishing between gene mutations and deficiencies of the Yg2 locus in maize

A new assay capable of distinguishing between gene mutations and deficiencies of the Yg2 locus in maize

Maize Genetics Cooperation News Letter (57): 105-107

In the system proposed, grains from plants with a normal chromosome 9 containing dominant alleles of the Yg2, Pyd and Wd loci and a chromosome 9 carrying the wd deficiency (which deletes all three loci) are treated with a mutagen and the frequency of different coloured sectors determined on the fourth or fifth leaves.
