A new design of clam trap for sampling above-ground arthropods in row crops

A new design of clam trap for sampling above-ground arthropods in row crops

Journal of the Kansas Entomological Society, 562: 229-231

A clam-type hinged trap with jaws of aluminium tubing covered with nylon taffeta is described, which is used as a sampling tool for obtaining absolute population estimates of arthropods on the aerial parts of row crops. Its advantages include lack of pre-sampling disturbance, minimal disturbance during sampling, large area per sample and the short time required for each sampling.
