A new laboratory model for dicrocoeliasis

Dicrocoelium extracted from cattle livers were injected (10/animal) under the dorsal skin of mice. Means of 4.2 plus or minus 1.1 and 1.4 plus or minus 0.6 trematodes were recovered on days 15 and 30 respectively. This model was used to test anthelmintics. These were given orally once in stands on days 13 and 6 after implantation of the flukes and the results were assessed at autopsy 6 and 5 days after treatment.
