A new long-term biological test for air pollution

A new long-term biological test for air pollution

Allgemeine Forstzeitschrift (29): 868

Results are presented of dendrochronological studies on dominant Scots pine trees in test plots in the Ruhr region of W. Germany. Growth ring width tended to increase during periods of decreasing air pollution associated with industrial stagnation (1922-1933, 1944-1950), and to decrease during periods of increasing air pollution (1933-1944, 1951-1960). From 1960 to 1980, a weak but steady trend towards increasing ring width was observed.
