A new method for determination of 15N-labeled nitrous oxide

A new method for determination of 15N-labeled nitrous oxide

Soil Science Society of America Journal 46(6): 1178-1184

A procedure is described that permits determination of nitrous oxide (N2O) evolved from soils treated with 15N-labeled fertilizer. This procedure involves dilution of 15N-labeled N2O with a known amount of unenriched dinitrogen (N2), reduction of the N20 to N2 in a heated tube containing reduced copper, and determination of the ratios, 29N2/28N2 and 30N2/(28N2 + 29N2), with a dual-inlet ratio mass spectrometer.
