A new multi-product plant for total utilization of nutrients in milk

Of a peak daily intake of 1400 m3 whole milk, a new factory at Waitoa, New Zealand, uses up to 600 m3 for cheese. The whey is clarified, pasteurized and cooled, and some of it is demineralized by electrodialysis and ion-exchange. The factory also makes infant feeding formulas, other nutritional products, and dried milks for reconstitution or use in the food and confectionery industry.
