A new phlebotomine sand fly (Diptera: Psychodidae) from southern California, USA

A new species of Lutzomyia that was collected in traps baited with carbon dioxide at Palm Desert and Magnesia Springs Canyon, California, is described from the adult male and female as L. xerophila sp.n. Notes are given on relationships with other species of the genus.
