R. altaica n.sp. (first recorded as Hydromermis sp.) found in Aedes communis, A. dianteus, A. flavescens, A. pionips, A. pullatus, A. pynctor and Mochlonyk sp. from fresh waters in East Kazakhstan, USSR, is described and figured. It is differentiated from all species of the genus (except R. nielseni) in the vulva being nearer to the anterior end of the body (V = 40 to 52%) and in the spicule size, ratio of body length to spicule length, larger c value and in the position of the nerve ring.
