The study (1) evaluates the current consumption of energy by Swedish agriculture and food processing; (2) examines with the help of the Swedish part of the IIASA model two possible scenarios within which energy consumption in agriculture could be reduced; and (3) considers the state of knowledge about such crops as might be thought economically promising as energy sources, again using IIASA models. Substantial energy savings can perhaps be made within the limits of each scenario.
