Breeding spring wheat for resistance to the unfavourable properties of solonetz soils

The most objective evaluation of varieties for resistance to the unfavourable effects of solonetz soils was obtained under conditions of soil moisture deficit. Yield on solonetz soils was correlated positively with number of secondary roots and negatively with solonetz resistance. Resistance to solonetz soils was related to drought resistance and the rate of development of the root system at the beginning of growth.
