Bulinus coulboisi of Lake Tanganyika: assessment of its taxonomic position and role as intermediate host for S. haematobium

No natural infections with Schistosoma haematobium were observed in any of the B. coulboisi collected at Kigoma, Tanzania. The laboratory-reared descendants were exposed to the miracidia of the Mwanza strain of S. haematobium (normally transmitted by B. nasutus, a member of the B. africanus group) without success.
