Changes in wool density in Czech breeds of sheep before and after tanning of skins

For lambskins from 5 Czech Merino (CM), 9 Tsigai and 9 Improved Valachian (IV) lambs slaughtered at the end of intensive fattening, wool density before tanning averaged 6552, 5022 and 1463 fibres/cm2 resp. on the shoulder, 6472, 5172 and 1537 on the flank, and 6400, 4932 and 1437 on the thigh. The overall percentage loss in fibre density after tanning was 29.4, 57.2 and 14.9% in the 3 breeds.
