, : Characteristics of oestrual mucus and cytology of vaginal epithelium of crossbred heifers. Indian Veterinary Journal 59(5): 400-401

Vaginal mucus, collected in mid-oestrus from 19 Jersey X Ongole, 17 Holstein-Friesian X Ongole and 5 Brown Swiss X Ongole heifers, was examined. 75.61% of samples were clear and the rest were cloudy. Spinnbarkeit values ranged from 4 to 9 cm, averaging 7.25. The typical fern pattern was observed in 85.37% of samples, while a non-characteristic pattern was mostly observed in cloudy and alkaline samples. The mean pH of oestrual mucus was 7.63.
