Characteristics of rice plants derived from somatic tissue and their progenies
Plants regenerated from somatic tissue (D1) of 23 varieties and their D2-D5 progenies were very variable for plant type, panicle type, grain shape, growth period and fertility. Variation was greater in indica than in japonica types. In some cases, variation in reproductive organs was greater than in vegetative. A number of lines with good characters were noted.
