Characteristics of small farms in selected areas of Louisiana

, : Characteristics of small farms in selected areas of Louisiana. Louisiana Rural Economist 44(4): 2-4

A sample survey was made in 1981 of 140 small farms in the Mississippi Delta, central mixed farming and Southeast dairy-truck areas of Louisiana, comprising 86 soyabean-cotton, 33 vegetable and 21 sweet potato farmers. Selected indicators included age and health, education, farm acreage and family income, amount and type of non-farm work, technical assistance programmes. It was found that farm type, differences in skills and training, and proximity to non-farm jobs influence family income.
