Characterization and comparison of chloroplast DNA in several Solanum tuberosum subspecies involved in cytoplasmic sterility
There were only minor differences in the chloroplast DNA (ctDNA) restriction endonuclease digestion patterns (HindIII, BamHI and XbaI) of the parents of crosses of S. tuberosum subsp. tuberosum or S. chacoense with S. tuberosum subsp. andigena or S. vernei. Since several types of cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) occur in the hybrid progeny, it is thought unlikely that the expression of CMS in S. tuberosum is controlled by the ctDNA.
