Cultivars Early Prolific (EP), Small Sugar (SS) and Fordhook Zucchini (FZ) formed an allelic series of YE, YI and YO which control the timing and extent of "fruit degreening". These alleles did not affect the final fruit colour which was under independent genetic control. The Y alleles were incompletely dominant and each heterozygote was intermediate both in terms of timing and completeness of colour change. Lignified rind was conditioned by a single dominant gene, Hr.
