Characterization and variability of the interior dryland natural pasture of the subhumid mediterranean zone
In 1974-6, annual productivity and botanical composition of the herbage was measured at 31 sites in the dryland range of the Chilean mediterranean subhumid zone. Mean annual production was 1.61 t DM/ha. Sites with soil N contents > 20 p.p.m. produced 59.2% more DM/ha than those with lower contents and productivity was 90.2% higher in soils with K contents > 0.4 meq/100 g. Class VI and VII soils produced 0.91 t DM/ha and Class III soils were 231% more productive.
