Characterization of a lectin from the seeds of the South African legume Canavalia virosa: purification and study of its effect on human cells cultured in vitro
Concanavalin V, isolated from C. virosa seeds was similar to Concanavalin A found in C. ensiformis seeds. Con V was a protein composed of a single subunit, alpha (27 000 daltons), which on changes in pH, ionic strength and temp. formed dimeric and tetrameric aggregates with itself and protein fragments derived from this basic alpha subunit.
