Characterization of a new Lactobacillus lactis bacteriophage

, : Characterization of a new Lactobacillus lactis bacteriophage. IRCS Medical Science, Library Compendium 8(5): 297-298

Structural and molecular features of a new Lactobacillus lactis bacteriophage, designated LL-H, are described. When propagated in L. lactis LL23 (a strain used in Swiss cheese manufacture) in MRS broth + 20 mM-CaCl2 at 37 deg C, phage LL-H had an infection cycle of about 4 h. The phage particles had a hexagonal head, probably icosahedral in shape, of about 50 nm diam., and a flexible non-contractile tail with a base structure and total tail length of about 180 nm.
