Chemical control of Echinochloa crus-galli in transplanted rice (Oryza sativa)

Field experiments were conducted on a sandy loam soil to evaluate new herbicides for the control of E. crus-galli in transplanted rice. Thiobencarb at 2-2.5 kg a.i./ha, applied 3 days after transplanting, did not show any phytotoxic effect on the crop and at the higher rates gave the highest paddy yield of 6.61-7.29 t/ha during 1976-7. Butachlor at 1-1.5 kg a.i./ha, applied 3 days after transplanting, gave effective control of E. crus-galli and decreased its dry wt. by 95.6%.
