Coronavirus as a cause of diarrhoea in newborn calves

Coronavirus as a cause of diarrhoea in newborn calves

Veterinariya, Moscow, USSR (11): 26-27

Bovine coronavirus was identified in the faeces of calves with diarrhoea on one farm in the USSR. The standard strains "Ey-800" and "F-17" were used as sources of antigen and for comparison. The techniques used were electron microscopy, haemagglutination tests and indirect immunofluorescence. An experimentally infected calf died after three days. Specific antibody was present in serum from 135 of 231 calves, and in 16 of 48 samples of colostrum and milk.
