Crossbreeding for evolving apparel wool breeds: discrimination among Rambouillet, Chokla, Malpura, Jaisalmeri and their crosses based on six monthly body weight, greasy fleece weight and fleece quality characteristics

Data were analaysed on 511 lambs of 14 genetic groups comprising Rambouillets, Choklas, Malpuras and various crosses of Rambouillet with the other breeds. Least-squares means are tabulated for 6-month body weight, fleece weight, staple length, fibre diameter and medullation percentage of wool. Chokla crossbreds produced heavier fleeces of better quality than those of other crossbreds. Fleece quality increased as the proportion of Rambouillet inheritance increased.
