It is reported in this review that polycultural farming is widely practised in East Africa and has the advantage of ensuring a steady supply of food for a family throughout seasons of adequate rainfall. The food crops interplanted are cereals, root and oil crops and at least one species of legume. The pest complex of 18 relevant food-crop plants is tabulated, and it is reported that the severity of attack has been quantified only for a few of these.
