The article is concerned with training programmes for extension workers in Sierra Leone. Part I discusses the characteristics of the training programmes including implementation from the planning stage, and particularly the desired attributes of the extension worker. Part II is concerned with local and informal techniques in grass-roots training programmes. Contact between the trainee, farmers and the village community forms the basis of the training.
