The origin, histochemical composition and interrelation of the ovarian cells, the karyology of the oogenesis and the internal fertilisation of Tetranychus urticae Koch were studied. Oogonial mitoses give rise to syncytia of 4 primary oocytes. In contact with the haemolymph, these cells differentiate into 1 growing oocyte and a 3-nucleate nurse cell; otherwise they form cells sustaining the morphology of the ovary.
