Diallel cross analysis for combining ability for seed cotton yield and some other quantitative characters in Upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.)

When data on plant height, petiole length, yield and some yield components, recorded in a seven-variety half diallel, were analysed, both additive and nonadditive gene action was found to control of each of the characters studied. Specific combining ability for boll weight and seed-cotton yield exceeded general combining ability. G. Cot. 10 and CP5/5 were identified as useful parental varieties, but G67 X G. Cot. 10 and G67 X PS10 as the best combinations.
