Berseem and barley were sown alone or in combination at sowing rates of 15 or 30 kg/feddan on medium black soil during 1980-1 and 1981-2. A basal dose of 20 kg N and 150 kg P2O5/feddan was applied. 4 cuts were taken, the 1st at 60 days after sowing, and subsequently at 35-day intervals. Berseem plants were tallest when grown in pure stand, achieving mean ht. of 54.2 cm (1980-1) and 53.6 cm (1981-2).
