Effect of sowing time on incidence of corn leaf aphid, Rhopalosiphum maidis (Fitch) on barley

Field trials were carried out in Delhi, India, during the rabi (cool) seasons of 1974-75, 1976-77 and 1977-78 on the effects of different sowing times on the incidence of Rhopalosiphum maidis (Fitch) on barley. It was found that pest incidence was much lower when the crop was sown early (mid-October to mid-November) than in later sowings. It was also evident that the aphid population started to decline when earhead emergence started.
