3. From 41 g groups of 15 Wistar CF rats were given a control diet with 40% sucrose, lactose or hydrolysed lactose (HL). After 160 days none of the rats given sucrose or lactose showed any sign of cataract but 14 of those given HL had cataract ranging from slight in 8 to almost total in 2.
