Data from 247 litters were utilized to evaluate the reproductive performance of crossbred gilts and sows housed in total confinement for 4 parities and fed on soya bean meal plus either maize or wheat; each of these treatments was given without supplementary biotin or with 440 mu g/kg feed. Of 116 gilts starting the study 34.5% completed 4 parities; 38% were culled for breeding problems and 10% for structural unsoundness.
