Efficiency of two stage index selection for selection of broiler parents

Efficiency of two stage index selection for selection of broiler parents

Indian Journal of Poultry Science 17(2): 157-163

Data on 1684 broiler pullets for 8-wk body weight, breast angle, shank length, egg production and hatchability were used to study the relative efficiency of 1- and 2-stage index selection of broiler parents. Five different options, 3 for 1-stage and 2 for 2-stage selection, were considered. The genetic gains in economic units expected from each criterion of selection provided the basis for comparison.
