The fundamental premise of the Farming Systems Research (FSR) approach is the appreciation of the necessity to build upon rather than destroy the farmers' traditional techniques. The approach emphasizes solving farmers' problems specific in time and location under the natural and socioeconomic circumstances they face. There is a complexity of biological, technical, political, social and economic relationships within agriculture.
