Feeding manner of lepidopterous larvae: the cabbage armyworm, Mamestra brassicae L. (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) and the common armyworm, Leucania separata Walker (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

Feeding manner of lepidopterous larvae: the cabbage armyworm, Mamestra brassicae L. (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) and the common armyworm, Leucania separata Walker (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

Applied Entomology and Zoology 18(2): 278-280

The frequency with which larvae of Mamestra brassicae (L.) and Mythimna separata (Wlk.) (Leucania separata) fed during the 24 h was investigated in Japan. The larvae were provided with an artificial diet, and feeding was monitored using an experimental procedure that is described. Under LD 16:8, there was no evidence of a circadian feeding rhythm, though a feeding pattern was detected.
