Genetic trends for 300 days first lactation milk yield in Murrah buffaloes

Records of 784 Murrah buffaloes between 1941 and 1977 were used to estimate the annual phenotypic and genetic improvement trends in 1st-lactation, 300-day milk yield. The 4 regression methods used each gave a different result. The genetic trend by the least-squares method was 11.76 kg, which was equal to 0.73% of the herd average of 1611.26 kg. The phenotypic trend was negative.
