High-quality culinary pea varieties grown in the central Chernozem zone

Of 69 varieties tested during 1976-1978 at the Ekaterininsk Experimental Station in Tambov province, USSR, the following consistently gave high seed yields and a high percentage of meal after testa removal: K4856, K53, K5731, K4829, K6590 and K5059. The percentage of whole seed after testa removal varied from 25.2 to 82.8% and was high in Priekul'skii 349, K5731 and Chiflik 6. The shortest cooking time was found in Unicum, K2847 and Izumrudnyi Pushkinskii.
