Histochemical localization of alkaline phosphatase in the alimentary canal of Tribolium castaneum (Herbst)

Laboratory studies in India on the distribution of alkaline phosphatase in the alimentary canal of adults of Tribolium castaneum (Hbst.) showed that the enzyme was present only in the mid-gut and Malpighian tubules. In the upper region of the mid-gut, activity was found in the lumen and periphery of the epithelial cells, while, in the lower region, high activity was detected throughout the epithelial cells.
