Histochemistry of the neurosecretory material of a trematode, Fischoederius elongatus (Digenea)

Histochemistry of the neurosecretory material of a trematode, Fischoederius elongatus (Digenea)

Proceedings of the Indian Academy of Parasitology 2(2): 123-127

Neurosecretory cells were detected not only in the nervous system of F. elongatus, but also in the parenchyma, suckers, pharyngeal region, oesophagus, caeca and uterus. 3 types of cell (A, B and C) were distinguished based on size and staining characteristics. Type A were the largest and type C the smallest. The neurosecretory material stained positively for glycogen, acid mucopolysaccharides and proteins; disulphide groups were detected.
