Histological studies of gill necrosis in carp (Cyprinus carpio)

Histological studies of gill necrosis in carp (Cyprinus carpio)

Zeitschrift fur die Binnenfischerei der DDR 28(7): 202-206

Histological study of the gills of carp from four fish farms at different ages and seasons showed that 'gill necrosis' is not a suitable description for the disease, as necrosis occurs only in the later stages. Lesions commence at the base of lamellae or in connective tissue near the large arteries. This differs from parasitoses, which, in general, cause progressive tissue reactions moving out from the ends of lamellae.
