Histological, histochemical and ultrastructural changes associated with nutritional muscular dystrophy in selenium deficient lambs

Histological, histochemical and ultrastructural changes associated with nutritional muscular dystrophy in selenium deficient lambs

Dissertation Abstracts International, B 43(10): 3156

None of the lambs born to ewes given a selenium supplemented ration (0.2 mg/kg feed) developed nutritional muscular dystrophy, while 13 of 14 lambs born to ewes on a Se-deficient diet were affected. The earliest evidence of muscular dystrophy was increased plasma creatine kinase activity, which preceded ultrastructural changes by two weeks, and histological and histochemical changes by four weeks.
